I've been working on a few projects lately that I haven't posted about - not because I don't want to, but because I am either still working on them or just haven't gotten around to it. One of those projects is this frame I made as a front door "wreath". I wanted something a little different and I also wanted an excuse to commandeer borrow my mother's Cricut. So I picked out what I wanted it to say, cut it out on black Contact paper (this is actually the chalkboard contact paper - it was the only thing I had at the time that was black) and stuck it to the glass in the frame. I put a piece of beige material in the frame behind the glass so it would blend in with the door color - this step is completely optional but my cheap frame needed something in it to keep the glass from moving around. You could always customize it with different colored materials or contact paper/vinyl.

I used one of those Command hooks to hang it after threading some ribbon through the hanging hook on the back. We have a covered porch so I am thinking it should hold up ok....it made it through our recent tornado storms (though admittedly the tornadoes were about 30 minutes away from us...). I am please with it for now.
I also worked on an area in our house that is by our front door (on the inside) and between that and our coat closet. We don't use it as a coat closet though because I had to steal re-purpose the rod from this closet to use in another closet. So we generally just hang our coats in our rooms - OR - I am being completely honest, they end up draped over the couch or something when we aren't using them in the winter. So I decided to make this little corner a place to hang our coats and put an planter I found on sale over there to put our umbrellas in. I am still playing with it, but for now I am ok with how it turned out.
I did not use the Cricut on the photo frame. My mom just got her Cricut recently so she has only one cartridge. So I wanted a different font. So I just put this together on the computer and printed it out and put it in the frame. Then I found the shelf - it was white - and painted it black to match the frame and the hooks. I found the hooks at Big Lots for $5/ea. A bit more than I would normally spend, but I loved them! The candles and colored bamboo sticks I had on hand already. Let's all agree to ignore the other planter that has all that mail in it....It's not there - you may think you see it, but you don't....

This last project is NOT finished. But I worked on it tonight and thought it was appropriate for this post. Again, I wanted something different font wise, so I chose not to do the Cricut (though it would have been easier and less messy!). But I wanted this applied directly to the wall and so printing it off and making the frame thing wouldn't work either. So I got a "wild hair" and decided I would paint it on the wall....So keep in mind that I have not talent for drawing, painting or writing in fun handwriting (like my SIL can!). I also have no patience for prepping ahead of time or patterns or anything so I ended up just free handing this:
| Dang you new camera with fancy lenses that show the lines I drew and the places where I messed up! |
| Not a bad start right? I still think it needs something more. Any ideas??? |
The picture is actually of the boys from my brother's wedding flanked on each side by copies of their birth certificates (the ones that we got when we adopted them with OUR names as mother and father and their new names!!!!). They looked SOOO cute in their tuxes!
So that's about it for now. I have a few more projects on the list, but that's what I have been working on recently....
